Entry #2: Wine Bottles & Swords
Starting off lesson 2 of 3D Modelling we was taught how to make a Wine Bottle using the Extrude tool and then cutting it in half to make it look like a broken bottle on a floor. We then went on to create a Sword using the same method and learning new functions along the way like "Cut, Slice Grow, Symmetry, Bridge and Flip." The majority of these function I have used before in Maya but I'm still finding it a little hard to adjust to the different layout that 3DSMax has and due to not having the key bindings I have available at home I keep pressing keys by accident which will end up me messing something or changing the view point and me having to sort it out before I can continue, this will stop happening overtime as this is only the second week of using Max as I do not want to give up on Max knowing that have skills in both Maya and 3DSMax will get me far in the Gaming Industry.
I have a general idea of what my 3D Interior Space will look like and have tried to draw a few things out myself but they're not the best of drawings. I also have looked on the internet for some pictures I can make references too and that have inspired me to add more unique designs to my 3D Space. I will make a moodboard out of the pictures soon and post them up in next weeks blog.
That's all for this week.

Entry #1: Overview
My second semester has officially started and one of the modules I will be taking on is 3D Modelling, I have had experience in the past due to spending two years at College learning how to use Maya so I'm pretty confident that I will do well in this module. However we're using 3DSMax for this module which I have not used before but being produced by the same company it's more of just a matter of adjusting to the different layout that 3DSMax has, making sure I can find everything I need and setting a few key bindings.
Our first lesson consisted of learning the basics of 3D Modelling, learning where all the most commonly used buttons are located and learning the layout so we know what this was and why it was there. We was also given the overview of the module and what we would be doing during the semester. For our final piece of work we are required to make a 3D interior space which can be of anything we choose (so long as it's not a bedroom of any kind).
I started to think through a few ideas, thinking back to previous work I had done in College for inspiration, I had previously done very bright colourful scenarios so I decided I wanted to do something different, I wanted it to be an abandoned house of some sort but I wanted it to have a theme, so I would have object to feel the room with apart from just broken table etc. I ended up deciding that It will be an Abandoned Nuclear Facility, I choose this because there will be a lot of object to create without them being too repetitive and can be multi-storied as I can have walk ways going to different parts of the interior space.
I also want a nuclear waste river stream going through the middle which I hope will give It a pretty unique look even though I know It would be pretty unlikely and dangerous for this to be in a real nuclear facility, It's more about giving my own spin on it then anything else.
That's just about it for this week, I will be hoping to do at least one blog post a week so Ill see you next week!
